Learning, Unlearning, and Everything In Between: Ekta’s Journey at Gulabi Mango

Meet Ekta, our Lead Designer - someone whose journey with Gulabi Mango beautifully mirrors the studio’s own growth. What began as an instinctive connection soon turned into a space where she found not just creative challenges, but belonging. In this conversation, she reflects on what it’s like to grow with a studio that values learning, trust, and the power of quiet leadership.

{Below is a very candid conversation captured between R(Ritika) and E(Ekta herself)}.

R - Let’s start at the beginning. How did you first come across Gulabi Mango?

E: I actually found Gulabi Mango on Instagram when I was looking for design agencies. What caught my eye was the work on one of their CPG brands ‘Its Actually, the packaging, the aesthetic, the attention to detail. I remember thinking, “I want to be part of the team that creates things like this.” It just clicked instantly.

R: What were your first impressions once you joined?

E: I expected good work, but I didn’t expect the experience that came with it. Gulabi Mango has been more than just a workplace; it’s shaped how I think, create, and grow. Some of my favorite moments aren’t even about work - they’re the conversations with Devanshi that go beyond briefs and deadlines. She’s been both a mentor and a big sister to me.

“The trust to explore, make mistakes, and find my own rhythm - that’s what made this journey special.”

R: How has your role evolved over time?

E: I started as an Associate Graphic Designer, and now I’m the Lead Designer. The journey has been one of constant learning from communication and presentation to creative decision-making and execution.

What’s made it special is the trust I’ve been given: the space to explore, make mistakes, and find my own rhythm.

R: Any projects that have been particularly fulfilling?

E: Definitely - The Soarce, Elaichi Co., and Junn are to name a few that are really close to my heart. Watching these brands grow and knowing I’ve had a part in shaping their visual story gives me a kind of creative fulfillment I’d always hoped to find.

“It’s okay to be figuring it out, as long as you’re willing to learn.”

R: How would you describe the work culture here?

E: Supportive, creative, and empowering. Here it’s okay not to know everything, that’s something I love about this place.

You’re encouraged to learn, question, and figure things out. That sense of patience and space to grow isn’t something you find everywhere.

R: Who or what inspires you the most at work?

E: Devanshi. The way she manages so many things, clients, creative direction, accounts, and the entire team, all with such calm and grace. She never lets pressure show, never loses her balance. That’s something I deeply admire and want to learn from her.

R: What’s been the biggest personal learning for you?

E: That being a designer is one thing, but leading as one is another. It’s not just about creating good work, it’s about guiding people, understanding perspectives, and growing together.

“Gulabi Mango feels like growth, creativity, and belonging, a space where you don’t just design, you evolve.”

R: A piece of advice you’d like to share with fellow creatives who’re just starting out?

E: In the beginning, focus on learning and growing, not money or time. Gain skills and experience, and once you’re confident, don’t let anyone take advantage of you. Be confident, speak up, and only stay where you feel valued. If you’re in a place that gives you opportunities, respect it, give your 100%, and work hard because the company’s success is also your success.

R: And finally, what does Gulabi Mango mean to you?

E: To me, it’s not just a workplace, it’s a space that feels like growth, creativity, and belonging. A reminder that when you’re in the right place, you don’t just design - you evolve.
